Most of us are familiar with Time of Use energy plans where most of the day is lower “off-peak” rate while the highest use times are mid-afternoon thru evening known as “peak” rates.  This is the hottest time of the day when the AC units are at peak usage that puts the heaviest load on our energy grid.

The most common rate plan for SRP customers is the EZ-3 Rate Plan.  On this plan, off peak rates are about 7 cents per kW most of the day while peak rates can be as high as 34.5 cents in the summer from 2PM-8PM, and 9.5 cents in winter from 5-9 both morning and night. In the summer, just 25% of your energy day can account for as much as 75% or more of your total energy bill.
